SuperBowl 55 DraftKings Picks: NFL DFS advice for Showdown tournaments
By Tommy Baker

Well, we’ve come to the end of the NFL season and to our last NFL DraftKings article for the 2020-2021 season, so let’s finish off the NFL season with some green screens. In order to put together a lineup that can cash when you have 100,000 + rosters to compete with you have to get creative and take some strategic chances.  For our DraftKings Showdown lineup, we’re going with a cheap, probably overlooked Captain in order to roster the usual Chief – Buccaneer’s lineup staples. Now, let’s take a look at our SuperBowl DraftKings Showdown Picks.

CAPTAIN

RB Ronald Jones $3,300

SuperBowl 55 DraftKings Picks: NFL DFS advice for Showdown tournaments

Ronald Jones has taken a back seat to Leonard Fournette during the playoffs, seeing only 37% of Tampa Bay’s offensive snaps the last two weeks. During that span he has 23 total rushes for 78 yards and no touchdowns. Kansas City, including playoffs, allowed 1,749 rushing yards (24th) and 4.5 yards per carry (20th) this season, which is encouraging for Jones who isn’t exactly known for his receiving prowess.

The Chiefs did allow a whopping 820 receiving yards (32nd), 95 receptions (T28), and 6.5 yards per target (27th) to opposing running backs which worked in Fournette’s favor. We are touchdown hunting with Jones in this spot if he is to offer any sort of ceiling. But I am willing to take that chance if it allows me to get both quarterbacks at the FLEX. If Jones can manage to catch one or two balls and find the endzone, he makes for a great CAPTAIN play at a bargain-basement price.

FLEX

QB Patrick Mahomes $12,000

Last year’s Super Bowl MVP does not need much introduction, just play him. Do you still need convincing? Check out Patrick Mahomes 2020 stats below.

  • 4,740 passing yards (2nd)
  • 38 passing touchdowns (4th)
  • 108.2 QBR (3rd)
  • Nine 300+ yard passing games (2nd)
  • 27 DKFP/GM

He might have even ranked first in all the above categories, had he not sat out for rest in week 17. Although Patrick Mahomes has only played in 7 career playoff games, he has thrown for a whopping 2,054 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 2 interceptions while adding another four scores and 173 yards rushing throughout those games. The kid takes his game to a whole new level once the postseason starts. The Chiefs will notably be without both their starting offensive tackles this week and Mahomes says his toe is “pretty close to 100%”. I’d expect him to take off running a bit more, especially if the Bucs are able to take advantage of a banged up Kansas City O-Line.

Mahomes Super Bowl stats: 286 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 29 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown.

QB Tom Brady $10,000

SuperBowl 55 DraftKings Picks: NFL DFS advice for Showdown tournaments

Only a select few quarterbacks have started in the Super Bowl multiple times. Tom Brady leads the pack with ten Super Bowl appearances and six victories. The GOAT finished the regular season ranking 3rd in passing yards (4633) and T-2nd in passing touchdowns (40) with Tampa Bay. Including the postseason, the Chiefs have allowed nearly 20 DKFP/GM to opposing quarterbacks, which ranks 11th worst in the NFL. If the Buccaneers are to keep this game close, Brady and Company are going to have to be in top form.  In his last four games against Kansas City, he has thrown for 300+ yards in three games while tossing six total touchdowns and averaging 20.8 DKFP/GM.

Tom Brady Super Bowl stats: 2,838 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and 30 rushing yards.

TE Travis Kelce $11,000

All-Pro Travis Kelce demolished the Buffalo Bills last week, catching 13 of 15 targets for 118 yards and two touchdowns, good for 39.8 DKFP respectively. This should come as no surprise as he took the entire league by storm, ranking 2nd in receiving yards (1,416), T-5th in touchdowns (11), 6th in targets (146), T-10th in target share (25%), 2nd in yards after catch (581) and 4th in receptions (105) throughout the regular season. This week he should feast again versus a Buccaneers defense that has allowed 13.8 DKFP/GM (T-22nd) to opposing tight ends.

Kelce Super Bowl stats: 6 receptions, 43 receiving yards, and 1 touchdown.

TE Rob Gronkowski $3,000

If you look at Rob Gronkowski’s game logs over the past four games, you may want to vomit. He averaged a paltry 2.8 DKFP/GM while compiling only four receptions for 72 yards. The only positive, he saw an impressive 77% snap share during that time. That snap share will be important this week versus a Kansas City defense that has allowed 14.7 DKFP/GM (26th) and 7.8 yards/target (26th) to opposing tight ends. Gronkowski knows the Chiefs well as his 17-363-3 receiving line in five total games against them is evidence of. Matter of fact, he recorded a season high 106 receiving yards on six receptions against this same Chiefs defense in week 12. This is Robert Gronkowski and Thomas Brady in the freaking Super Bowl, we have seen this movie before.

Buckle up!

Gronkowski Super Bowl stats: 23 receptions, 297 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns.

There are a ton of great players that were not mentioned and rest assured we will roster Tyreek Hill, Leonard Fournette, Mike Evans, Scotty Miller in other rosters as you should too. Mix and match your players accordingly and have some fun.
